GOLDEN APRICOT CINEMA SCHOOL

“Golden Apricot Cinema School” – Young Filmmaker’s School for Countries of Black Sea Cooperation and Caucasian Region is founded in Yerevan on November 11, 2008 by the Ministry of Culture of RA and “Golden Apricot” Find for Cinema Development.

The first experience of the workshops was tried in summer, 2008, after 5th Yerevan Internatinal Film Festival GOLDEN APRICOT by Atom Egoyan. Together with participants (from Armenia, Turkey, Georgia) Atom Egoyan realized shootings in Yerevan and Khor Virap.Now it was Iranian prominent film director Abbas Kiarostami who arrived in Armenia to hold a workshop. Film directors from Iran, Turkey, Georgia as well as Armenia, participated in it. The workshop was held in Cinema “Moscow” from November 10-17, 2008.Right on the first day of the workshop Kiarostami put a task in front of the participants to shoot short films on the theme of wind and door. He also represented his Iranian students’ films on the mentioned theme.The scenaries were discusses at first, afterwards the participants started practical work. Kiarostami was following the particpants at work despite the time and weather, he was visiting them in their shooting areas. At the end of the workshop 12 films were already ready, the rest are going to be sent to the master by the end of December.Expressing their opinion the participants pointed out that one of the most important things was the intercultural communication and exchange of experience, which was afterwards transformed to a real friendship.
