SYNOPSIS

After graduation, Niko comes to work at the Wine Factory. He does not want to put up with violations occurring there constantly with the knowledge of the authorities. Typical for the cinema of the time plot for production theme is served differently. Comes to the fore the personality of the protagonist, character formation, overcoming the obstacles - no matter what they are.

Otar Iosseliani

Director and writer. People's Artist of Georgia (1984). BorninTbilisi, in 1934. He studied at the Department of Mathematics in Moscow State University. Worked as a director assistant, editor in Georgia Film Studio, as a director at the Tbilisi Studio for Newsreel and Documentary Films. Since 1961, he is a director and screenwriter for Georgia Film. In 1965, Iosseliani graduated from the Directing Department of VGIK (Dovzhenko’s studio). In 1962, Iosseliani directed the short film April, and in 1964, made the documentary Iron, which shows one day of the smelter. These films already had an original style that is clearly manifested in his first feature film Falling Leaves (1966), which was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize and Georges Sadoul Prize for the best debut at Cannes IFF. In 1971, Once Upon a Time There Was a Singing Blackbird released and in 1976, Iosseliani made Pastoral, which was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlin IFF. Since the early 1980s, Otar Iosseliani works in France. In 1984, he made the film Favourites of the Moon, which was awarded Special Jury Prize at the Venice IFF. The same prize were awarded two more films by Iosseliani - And Then There Was Light (1989) and Brigands-Chapter Seven (1996). In 1999, Farewell, Home Sweet Home by Iosselianiwas released, in which he also played a role. Otar Iosseliani is also the author of several articles about cinema, published in Russia and abroad. He won Triumph Award in 1993. President of the jury at the entrance examination of La Fémis (France's National Film School), in 2000. Member of the jury at the Berlin IFF 1986.
