Upon graduating from the elite School of Film Directors and Script Writers in Moscow, Andranikian, inspired by limitless possibilities of animation, began his career by directing animated films for Armenfilm -- the largest studio in Armenia. In 1987, Andranikian received his first accolade from the European film community for directing, "From Evening to Evening," and was awarded with the Grand Prize for the Best Animated Film at the Kiev International Film Festival, “Molodost”. Soon thereafter, Sash moved back to Moscow where he started a new journey directing commercials and music videos. His first music video, “Flowers," an elegant combination of animation and live action, was a ground-breaking success and gained nation-wide acclaim. It earned Andranikian numerous awards including Grand Prize and First Prize in category at the International Festival of Light Entertainment Television Programs “Post-Montreux-92," The Silver Apple and Special Jury Prize at The International Festival of Music Videos, “Generation 1992." "Flowers" was screened at the 1992 Cannes Musical Festival, and hit the number one position on Russian Billboard charts where it remained for almost one year. Andranikian then made his transition into the American industry, where he met producer Mark Zander, and in 1993 directed “Behind Bars," an animated hip hop music video for Def Jam Records featuring noted rapper, Slick Rick. Soon after, Andranikian directed the highly publicized “Get High, Get Stupid, Get AIDS” public service announcement and music video for The Ad Council’s Aids Awareness Campaign featuring rock star, Melissa Etheridge.
