Arab Nasser, Tarzan Nasser
Tarzan and Arab Nasser, filmmakers and visual artists, were born in Gaza (Palestine) in 1988, one year after the last cinemas in the Gaza Strip closed. They studied Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University and developed a passion for cinema from a young age. In 2010, they received the Best Artist of the Year Award from the A. M. Qattan Foundation for their conceptual art project Gazawood, a series of film posters inspired by Israeli military offensives against the Gaza Strip. Encouraged by this recognition, they directed the short film Condom Lead in 2013, which tells the story of a gazaoui couple’s disturbed intimacy during wartime. The film was selected in the official competition at the Cannes FF. In 2014, their first feature film, Dégradé, a single-location drama set in a women’s hair salon in Gaza, was presented at the Semaine de la Critique during Cannes FF 2015. The film was the first official co-production between France and Palestine. In 2019, they directed their second feature film, Gaza Mon Amour, a poetic romance between two sexagenarians. The film premiered at the Venice FF (Orrizonti section) in 2020 and was selected to represent Palestine in the 2021 Oscars race. Their third feature film, Once upon a Time in Gaza, is part of the Un Certain Regard official selection at the 78th Cannes FF (2025). Alongside their work as filmmakers, they are also involved in other art forms, including video art, painting, digital art, and drawing.
